Zepto, Blinkit and Instamart add fees on top of item prices: a delivery fee below a minimum order, a handling fee, a small-cart fee on very small orders, and late-night or rain fees at some times. The apps have changed these fees many times since 2024, and each receipt shows only that order’s fees. DineProfile reads every grocery receipt back to your oldest order and adds up each kind of fee, so you can see how much you’ve paid in handling fees alone, how many orders carried a small-cart fee and how the fees on an average order have changed.

The fees on a grocery app receipt
- Delivery fees apply below the app’s free-delivery amount.
- Handling fees are a per-order charge that the grocery apps add.
- Small-cart fees apply when an order is below the app’s minimum amount.
- Late-night, rain and high-demand fees apply at night, in bad weather or at busy times.
- Some apps have also charged platform or convenience fees on some orders.
How the fees have changed
In March 2024 Zepto started charging some users a ₹2 platform fee and, in certain cases, a ₹15 late-night handling fee after 11 pm, India TV reported.
In November 2025, BestMediaInfo listed what Instamart and Blinkit charged on small orders. Below ₹99, Blinkit charged a ₹30 delivery fee, a ₹4 handling fee and a ₹20 small-cart fee, and Instamart charged a ₹30 delivery fee, a ₹9.80 handling fee and a ₹15 small-cart fee. Above ₹199, Blinkit charged none of these fees. Above ₹199, Instamart charged a ₹16 delivery fee, which Swiggy One members didn’t pay.
On 3 November 2025 Zepto dropped its handling, surge, rain and small-cart fees, and lowered its free-delivery amount from ₹199 to ₹99, with a flat ₹30 delivery fee below ₹99, Business Today reported. In January 2026 Swiggy rolled back its no-fee campaign on Instamart, according to Swiggy’s shareholder letter for January to March 2026. In June 2026 Blinkit charged no platform fee and a handling fee of ₹4 to ₹11, and Zepto added ₹15 to late-night orders, Storyboard18 reported.
Fees also differ by city, time and cart size, so your receipts are the only full record of what you paid.
Fees shown late at checkout
The Central Consumer Protection Authority’s guidelines on dark patterns, issued in November 2023, list drip pricing, where costs appear only late in checkout, and basket sneaking, where items are added to a cart without the buyer choosing them. In December 2025 the authority fined Zepto ₹7 lakh after finding fees such as the handling fee shown only at checkout and a Zepto Pass add-on selected by default, Inc42 reported.
